Well, maybe you sat on your porch, but neither I, my father nor my great
grandfather did. I'm not grumpy, I'm disgusted by the entire thread. And
your comments in particular.

Nothing has been posted about any comments made by using troops. So your
comments assume facts not in evidence.

I have no doubt that you have absolutely no idea as to what a JG on the
bridge of a DE in the North Atlantic thought of the TBS when he picked up the
handset and called the CVE for a launch to help prosecute a contact. Imagine
the situation if he had had to use a set he knew the Nazi in the U-boat
could hear. Or write out a message and send it down to Central to be sent by
CW, which the U-boat could also hear 20 minutes later. Versus simply picking
up the handset and saying "Homebase, scramble viper. Contact bearing 225
range 5000."

You people are trying to rewrite history in the light of what's available
today. There is a derogatory name for that but it escapes me at the moment.
You can't unless you are totally dishonest make derogatory comments about a
set simply because it doesn't measure up to your current cell phone or
I-pad, which is all you really know anything about.
