Hi all,
It is looking good that I will have this HF/6M system available for testing at Gilbert. I wanted to solicit some input on what band should be used for HF, so that folks at home could participate. Any ideas? I will most likely be deploying an NVIS antenna and if someone wanted to string up a dipole we could use that too.
Second question is, what 6M frequency should we use? 51.0 is used for local/liaison comms. Perhaps 52.0? 53.0? Anyone have a preference based on the radios you'll be bringing? If we can settle on a VHF freq now, folks can bring their radios pre-programmed as we know programming some of these PRC's can be a bear.
Once everything is set up, I'll put out a QST on 51.0 and other Gilbert freqs noting the availability of the system. Please be courteous and listen first for any QSOs already in progress. Squelch on HF is not a perfect system so don't be surprised to hear HF QRN break squelch in your 6M HT
Any words of advice from our fearless leaders about how to use this new capability?
