Mike,
Back in the mid-1970s, before we (U.S. military) went to NATO computer-generated callsigns, one of the callsigns my platoon had in Germany was actually "Flatboat Cyclone" plus a 2-digit suffix for leader, each squad, etc. I don't remember the other calls- we had a number of them and rotated through the list- but Cyclone sticks in my mind. The story was that calls were made up to be difficult for non-native English speakers to pronounce, but "Flatboat Cyclone" doesn't seem to be that difficult. MAYBE tougher than "Quebec Seven Alpha" or something like that, but I doubt it.
In sunny Viet Nam I always had a radio, but very rarely a working transmitter, so no callsign most of the time. Did a LOT of listening, but not to English-speaking stations....but that's a story for another time, off line.
I doubt I will get to Gilbert, although it is only six hours of so away. Y'all have fun!

I like the tactical calls were used in the 1991 movie "Hot Shots!":
"Sphincter Niner Mucous Ringworm this is Milli Vanilli Chili Willy..."
