Al:
OK, I'll bite. Henceforth I shall be known as "Joplin Blend 6." It's
the callsign I was given by Army ROTC Rangers when I ran flightline comms in
CAP in college when our squadron helped PANG land a stick of ten Huey's in
the athletic fields. (We even had the local FD and their foam truck on site
just in case.) The rangers were going to fly out to IGMR and return that
evening. Several of us used PRC-25's (it was 1972 so the -77's weren't
invented yet) to communicate around the flightline; I got to talk to the
PANG flight leader on a separate push. Kewl! H-250's in either hand.
Breck:
He asked me to pop smoke for him, so I called another Joplin Blend
station who was on the flightline to toss a smoke grenade ROTC gave us. It
was GREEN smoke against a GREEN football field. The helo pilot was not
amused.

P.S. We use tactical callsigns all the time when we run RACES public
service events here in Rockville, MD. "NET this is WATER STOP 1. OVER." We
just sign our FCC callsigns when we're finished with the exchange.
