This is what happened this week…
Since I went to the 2011 MRCA Meet at Gilbert, I have made it a top priority to become an independent radio operator. I have operated on my own, but most of the time I had K2AJR’s help.
On Tuesday, I went to the usual park, set up the dipole and radio, but something was wrong and I could not join the net. On Thursday, the same thing happened… I could not join the net. After the net, K2AJR and I tested the equipment and it turned out my PRC1099 had a transmitting problem.
Today, a beautiful Saturday morning, I went on “patrol” with the PRC1099A to join the M &S net. I succeeded to hang the antenna at the tree on the first shot. The rest of the setup went smoothly and quickly and I was sure that I could be on the net on time.
Suddenly, my eyes caught something moving in the bush. It was a half naked pervert masturbating himself. I was so scared. I quickly searched for my cell phone which I usually have with me, but I soon realized I left it at home. I also realized I forgot the camera which I usually have with me. I ran away from the park and asked some one to call the police. Next, I called K2AJR. When the police officers and K2AJR arrived, of course that pervert was gone and the net was just started.
This incident discourages me to go to the park alone and operate the radio. Until I can find another safe park or another way to operate safely, I will not be on the air even though I really want to operate military radios independantly.
I do not know how many YL are MRCA members and operate portable, but I recommend to carry a pepper spray with you. This afternoon, K2AJR went to the gun store and purchased pepper spray which I will always carry with me from now on. I will always carry my cell phone too.
I am so disappointed but I will listen to the net and find the way to operate the radio safely.
