Gang,
I took a chance on a disreputable looking PRC-9A on E-bay. It arrive
promptly, and is now functioning reasonable well in the shop, surrounded
by four separate bench supplies, and a rat's nest of wire.
I want to get this running for the MRCA meets, maybe even the Spring
Meet in Sussex County, NJ, 16-17 APR. So I'm looking to buy some stuff.
1) A battery box. Would consider a PRC-8/9/10 parts set.
2) An AM-598/U amplifier/PS. This might obviate #1.
Does anyone have any experience powering one of these radios? I found
Dennis Stark's writeup <http://www.qsl.net/wb4tur/images/dcdc.htm>. But
that's probably not the way I'd do it if I build a DC/DC supply from
scratch. These things need 1.5 and 6 volts at about a half amp each,
and 67.5 at about 20 ma. plus 135 at 40 ma on transmit. I don't thonk
dollar store 9-volters are going to do the trick for long. Silly little
thing has about 15 tubes.
Also, does anyone have a scan of an accurate schematic for the PRC-9A.
It's subtly different from the original set.
Any help appreciated,
Al
