Tom,

Congratulations! It's great to have a nice NOS TCN transmitter. The TCN-2 is
the complete setup containing the TCM-2 HF and the TCU-2 MF transmitter,
with the power supply, remote control unit and power supply transfer switch
to either one of the transmitters.

Do you have this complete set or just the more common TCM-2 HF transmitter
with the power supply?
The remote control is really not needed because the same control function is
on the power supply front panel and all it does is turn the power supply
on/off from another location via a cable. Here is the photo of the remote:
http://www.navy-radio.com/xmtrs/ww2/tcm/tcm-ctl-CG23241-92.jpg .

I have a TCM-2 with the power supply and presently I'm working on restoring
a couple of connectors on the back of the transmitter and the power supply,
which a previous owner discarded and replaced with 6 pin tube sockets...
ugh! I managed to find some chassis connectors which are the same as the
originals. I finished identifying the wiring on the tube socket pins so I
can change them to the correct connectors before I turn the transmitter on.

I've been trying to find information as to where the TCN - TCM - TCU were
used, and possibly with which receivers but I can't find any information on
that - not even the slightest cue.

My feeling is - considering the mechanical and electrical construction of
the set - that it may not have been a shipboard radio, but a semi-portable,
temporary shore station. In this case, there may not have been a specific
receiver to use with the transmitter, but any number/model of available
receivers would have done the job.

In my shack the receiver desk has an RBB-RBC pair, an RAK-RAL pair and an
RAO-RBL pair.

I suggest you get the manual for the transmitter (if you don't have it in
the NOS kit). All the operating, troubleshooting and maintenance
instructions are there, including all the schematics. I have an original
manual, which are obtainable, I believe.

Best Holiday wishes,

Hello all and Happy Holidays, I own an N.O.S. TCN-2 Transmitter and
Rectifier. I haven't even installed the tubes. I was wondering if anyone has
knowledge of this rig and what ship might have had them? Would be great to
see a picture of one installed in a ship or even being operated. I also need
a picture of the remote control. I can provide part#'s if that helps. i am
putting together an all Navy operating position in my radio room and any
recollections, stories, and or pictures would help me and i really appreciate
your assistance. Again, merry Christmas all and 73..... Tom
