[MRCA] PRC-515 QSOs!

On the evening of July 3th, my family and I went camping (in the backyard!)
brought my trust PRC-515. Made the following contacts while portable, I
happened upon the OMISS 80 meter net

 

WW3K - 39.5 miles

KD2N - 63 miles

N1DN - 70.5 miles

W4UZI - 595.2 miles

N4JTW - 672.7 miles 

 

These contacts were on battery with much cranking of the hand geny before it
finally gave up the ghost! How did I make such great contacts? Well, it
helped that I connected the manpack to my 135' OCF dipole strung over the
house at 40' up. Just really goes to show you that a good antenna makes a
much bigger difference than a high power transmitter!
