FYI the defacto Mil 10mtr FM freq was established a long time ago as 29.6mc
because of the ability to use the VRC-12 family radios here. Nick-named "Red
Flag" channel, many VRC-12's will tune down one click under the normally
30mcLPF. This resulting in a red flag popping up in the freq window. This was
used a "party channel" in Vietnam by those who knew that it existed(not many
people did).
In later years, k9wt, wa4vag, ki0pf & others, used it as their coast-coast
intercom freq when the band was open. All of them using RT-524s. Note, not all
RT-524's are capable of this.
Please correct me if I have any of this wrong.
