The Johnson Viking 500 has an 807 clamper and string of voltage regulator tubes that are engaged in the sideband mode. Three watts from an external SSB exciter are needed for drive. The VR tubes are also engaged in the "External Exciter" mode in the T-368. I hooked up my Central Electronics 10B Sideband Exciter to the T-3 (with a little swamping) and had a SSB qso with good audio reports. The clamp tube in the Viking 500 Changes the 4-400 to class AB1 in SSB amplifier mode. Perhaps the T-3 clamp tube does the same thing? The T-3 book is unclear about this.
