[MRCA] PRC-77 on 6 Meters

I'm KB9DFE. Got licensed at age 13 in 1989 and amateur radio was a great
hobby for me from home. Went off to college and operated W9HHX from
Milwaukee School of Engineering. After that I moved to Madison, WI and
have only been active on VHF 144MHz from time to time. No space to put
up an HF antenna right now except for an SW Longwire for listening.

I've always been a radio enthusiast and military collector in general
focusing on Vietnam and later clothing and equipment. Since I have the
opportunity for this PRC-77, I thought I'd combine the two hobbies.

My dad was in the NG for 22 years and at a Guard Picnic in 1988 they had
a vehicle with VHF radio equipment in it. I remember spending about 2
hours in there tuning around and thinking it was the coolest thing. That
helped me want to get my ham license.

Thanks for the info on 6 Meters. I did a little searching on the internet
and it looked like guys were putting PRC-25s and 77s on 6 Meters so I was
pretty sure it was OK but didn't know if it was a "gray" area or not.

We've got a pretty good show in Iola, WI for Mil. Vehicles and Equipment
that I went to last year for the first time. Saw lots of Radio Gear
there last year but prices were a little high. Hopefully I'll be
attending this year with my own PRC-77.

Thanks again.

Steve

Part 97.305(c) of FCC Rules sates, in effect, that wideband FM (modulation index > 1, in the FCC's terms) is prohibited on freqs below 29.0 MHz. Above 29.0, it's perfectly OK.
