Hi Al:
I have a couple of things I need to discuss with you.
First off, there is a guy that has a 5300 with no case he wants to off load
for around $75. I don't want it, but I thought you might like it for spare
parts and maybe you can bring the guy down in the price. If you are
interested I will forward the mssg he sent me and you can contact him
directly.
Second: I am the emcee at the annual Atlanticon QRP convention at the end
of March, at Timonium, MD. They have approached me to do an hour long
presentation in addition to being emcee.
I have been thinking about something QRP-ish centering on MilCom gear. I
have a PRC-10 and a PRC-6 along with a TRC-77A and a GRC-109, all of which
are in line with the QRP philosophy. However, I would like to BORROW a RS-6
station and a Delco 5300/PRC-64 to add to the "show-and-tell". Icing on the
cake would be to borrow a BC-611 and a PRC-77 to round out the portable
gear.
Atlanticon will be the last weekend in March (24/25). If you consent to my
borrowing a couple pieces of your collection, I will pick them up from you
some time during the week before Atlanticon, and get them back to you on
that Sunday. I promise I will guard them with my life.
My main purpose in doing this is that MilCom restoration has really gotten
into my blood, as much if not more so than QRP. In presenting this forum to
about 140-150 QRPers on the East Coast, we may pick up a few "converts" to
MicCom. I know that Jim Fitton, W1FMR, a very good friend of mine and long
time QRPer, has just started showing up on the Glowbugs list and is starting
to collect MilCom gear, too.
What are your thoughts? I'd fully understand if you decline, some of that
gear (especially the BC-611) being very hard to replace and all. Please
think it over and get back with me.
