[MRCA] AN/GRC-9 Keying in Phone Position

Have never tried to measure just how long it takes a stock GRC-9 to reach 
full carrier output on phone following key down, but in my experience (with a 
half a dozen rigs) it's long enough to be annoying.   Typically cuts off the 
first syllable or so of the first word spoken during what would otherwise be 
considered a normal PTT back and forth.   

What experience/impressions have others had?
