I have modified both my GRC-9's to allow for continuous tx filamants. I found the warm-up delay on phone to be unacceptable, especially when trying to break in to a net, etc. I have experienced no untoward results from same. It is my understanding that power consumption in the standby mode was the reason for turning off the fils. There is a point of folklore, however, that says that the 2E22 tube has a very finite filamant life, some have said in the order of 25-30 hours. In all my years using both BC-1306's and GRC-9's, on amateur bands and CAP, I have never had a 2E22 go bad... period. Having said that, I have amassed a group of spare tubes to last my equipment far beyond the grave... so to speak.
The mod I did involves a simple jumper on the T/R relay. de K3HVG
