Mike and Richard,
CD-1086 also came in 4' and 50'. Standard issue AN/GRC-9 came with both the
4' and the 7'. The 50' is extremely rare and may have been locally procurred.
I've never had one but have a friend who does. It was used with the
PE-162-(*) gasoline powered generator.
If you happen to acquire a CD-1086 of either length, the first thing you want
to do is flex it from end to end in about 1' steps. If you hear nothing, it
should be OK. If you hear a dry hissing or rustling noise, the insulation on
the individual conductors has gone hard or brittle and the noise is the sound
of it breaking. This can happen with any cables but seems to be most
prevalent in CD-1086's with ones made in the early 50's, including some of those
marked CD-1086-Gy.
