[Motorola] MTS2000 Instead of Scanner?

Hello Group, 



Before I purchase a MTS2000, I need to ask this question. 



Will the MTS2000 be able to be use in "RECEIVE" only mode on trunking frequencies? As an EMT, I carry a non-voice pager, but would like to hear the "Short Report" on aid calls. My fire dept has issued "Trunk Tracker" scanners, but I find them to be almost useless, due to poor recption and very low audio. 

Our FD uses MTS2000 and MCS2000 radios, and of course it costs our dept $$$ for each radio registered with our trunking provider, so not all the first responders are assigned radios. I was thinking that an MTS2000 could be programmed to act as a  "Scanner"...........is this possible?
