[Motorola] Hex editing?

Hi Jeff,
I'm not sure which hex editor you're using but so long as you understand how
to read hexadecimal numbers you can learn how to edit. Generally speaking
the code locations (some times referred to as 'offsets') will be displayed
on the left, right, or bottom in hexadecimal format. If you know exactly
which offsets to change for your version of the RSS then it's simply a
matter of finding those offsets one at a time and changing their values. The
values are displayed as pairs of bytes with the most significant and least
significant bytes reversed but if you already have the new values then don't
worry about it as they're probably all set to go. Many editors also show the
decimal equivalent of each byte that is highlighted so long as you have
selected the properly type of digital word when configuring your editor.
This is helpful in seeing the existing decimal value (500 decimal = 50.0Mhz
for example) and the new value you put in its place (540 decimal = 54.0Mhz
for example). There is a Maratrac Yahoo group that may be able to help
further. In its FILES section is an excellent document on changing the
frequency limits for version 5 Maratrac RSS. Version 4 RSS mods are shown on
Batlabs.com. While the lowband Syntor X9000 is still preferred by many today
you can still 'run what ya brung' (namely the Maratrac) and get it working
fine on 6m.

Subject: [Motorola] Hex editing?

Hello to all. I am trying to hex edit Maratrac software to go to the 6
meter ham band. I don't know how to hex edit. I have the hex editor open
and can only find one line of code 42C7A. I cant find 42C27, 53EF6, or
56816 they all should be HEX F401 and DEC 500 as from the factory, acording
to what I read in a conversion article. The guy says those codes need to be
changed to HEX 1C02 and DEC 540 to enable the radio in the 6 meter band.
Please help. Thanks, Jeff
