[Motorola] Saber I

Glenn,

Motorola service manual 6881044C05 covers maintenance and troubleshooting of
Saber I, II, and III radios. I assume your radio is the "plain" Saber and
not Systems Saber or Astro Saber, since you did not specify a model number.
Unfortunately, the above service manual has only recently been cancelled by
Motorola Parts- within the last 90 days or so.

Are you using a genuine Motorola RLN4008 RIB or an aftermarket clone? I ask
this question because many of Motorola's high-tier radios- the HT1000 and
Saber are such radios- are very picky about the data voltage levels going to
the radio. If the data levels are not exact, corrupted data will result.
The same problem may occur if a USB to serial converter is used, even with a
genuine RIB. Since you have two radios with codeplug issues, I suspect that
the problem is in the programming setup rather than in the radios.

Subject: [Motorola] Saber I

Is there a Saber I service manual that includes component level information?
Is there a manual that includes block diagrams and module pin numbers?
I realize that the Saber I manuals are probably no longer available
from Motorola.
I have two VHF Saber I's that when I read the codeplug, I get a
checksum warning.
When I look at the channel information the receiver or the transmit
frequency may be an illegal frequency.
When I fix the bad frequencies and reprogram the codeplug, there is
other corrupt frequency data.
The RSS indicates that the radio is downloading tuning information
for 255 channels when I save the data to the codeplug.
I suspect that i have a very corrupt radio.

Any advice??

Thanks
