[Motorola] HT1000 Blues

I was wittness to an HT1000 being programmed by a Motorola programmer with a battery that died while in mid program.  The radio can no longer be read or written to.  The software now says,  "no communication" or "check connections" or "radio is off or malfuntioning".  The cable and programmer work fine on other HT1000 radios, now that it has a new battery.  The radio still receives and transmits , but all the PL information seems to be gone and the transmitter stays on the about one second after you release the ptt button.  Is this radio now a piece of JUNK?
