[Motorola] Laptop computer issues

Good Morning all,

          I am struggling with an old laptop in the hopes of being
able to use it to program my MT1000 and Spectra radios.  I suspect
that although it is old, it may not be old enough.  But, before I give
up I'd like to make sure I've tried everything first.

          The computer is an eMachine eSlate 450K with an AMD
processor running at about 400mhz.  It has Win98.  I have had success
with programming radios running Win98 in DOS mode (not a DOS window)
using an older desktop.  The BIOS has settings for the COM port as
enabled, auto and disabled.  I have it set to enabled.

          Am I missing something, or am I just in denial.  Let me know
if I've omitted any important details.
