Doug,
The "FAIL 001" message is caused by the transmit VCO going out of lock. Go
here for the fix:

Subject: [Motorola] Spectra "Fail 001" Help Please
Greetings All,
I have a problem and need some advice.
I installed a UHF high power Spectra in my van yesterday. Initially the
radio worked fine (receive and transmit)for about 30 minutes or so. About
an
hour later I went out to the store and when I turned the radio on it would
receive OK but would not transmit. It beeps when you transmit and displays
the "Fail 001" code.
I tried to reprogram the code plug with the origional data and the radio
took
the programming OK but still showing the error code.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Doug
Effort, PA
