Jay,
Yes, you could remove, and then jumper around, the final PA transistor. But
there are still the issues of the embedded power control, PA temperature,
and high-SWR-shutdown functions that are tailored to your specific radio.
Given the extra cost of the high-power radio, I would strongly suggest that
you NOT tamper with it at all. Sell that puppy, and buy the 1-25 watt model
of the CDM. Once you start modifying a CDM radio, its value to others will
drop like a rock.
Although it is a waste of paid-for power, you could use a power attenuator
of a suitable power rating to drop the power- but if you want the receive
side to work, you must then add a relay. Seems like a lot of work for ...?
I have several CDM radios in service as FX1 and mobile stations, and I would
hate to tinker with any one of them.

Subject: [Motorola] CDM-1250 VHF Low Power Mods???
Importance: High
I need to lower the power in several CDM-1250 VHF models #
AAM25KKD9AA2AN.
These are the 25-45 watt models and need to lower the power on some of
the channels to 5 watts at the "low power" setting.
I do not mind sacrificing the "high power" setting to get a 5-20 or 5-30
watt radio.
Are there modifications that will allow this without making the PA go
non-linear?
(Already aware of Batlabs)
Thanks.
