[Motorola] Awful Radios

Does anyone remember or want to admit they worked with radios made by Pace??!! I worked at a two-way shop in the early 80's and they bought some VHF high band and UHF radios from Pace. These used the Motorola MC145151 PLL. The way they were programmed was using a diode matrix that had about 20 wires coming out of it. You cut the wire for the pin you wanted high. These would also do full duplex by cutting a couple of jumpers. The problem with the radios was a poorly designed VCO!! The thing was SO microphonic you could just touch the top of the radio and the frequency would drift!! Pace suggested filling the coils with wax which didn't help - especially if the radio was in a vehicle in the hot sun! Output power was about 25 to 50 watts depending on which radio you had. Would be great for 2m or 70cm use if the VCO hadn't had so many problems.
