[Motorola] MT-1000 Battery advice needed.

Good morning all,
I obtained a couple of nice UHF MT-1000 radios at, of all
things..a garage sale recently. With them I got a number of
batteries, a six gang charger, a desk charger and an automobile
charger.
Not surprisingly, the batteries are all in marginal or worse
condition, so its time to thnk about replacing them. I've noticed
that NiMH replacements are commonly available, but I'm concerned about
the *true* compatibility of NiMH batteries with the Moto chargers I
already have. I'm not interested in tossing the chargers out to get
some other chargers suited for the NiMH packs. So..a couple of
specific questions:
What has been your experience with NiMH packs and Moto
chargers? Any particular replacement packs to avoid or to be
recommended? (High capacity is preferred).
Can the original packs be rebuilt? If so, by who?
Also a non-battery question...I'd be interested in a partial
trade of one of my UHF MT-1000's for a 99 ch VHF MT-1000. Does this
even pass the laugh test? :)
Thanks all....
Dennis
