Subject: [Motorola] GMRS question
I hope that someone on the reflector can help me with these questions:
I recently purchased a pair of Motorola FRS/GMRS radios and the so-called
instructions leave a lot to be desired.
First, I understand that you do not have to be licensed for the FRS but do
have to be licensed for the GMRS - true?
Yes. You need a license for GMRS. About $75 from the FCC.
Forms available on their web site.
You can use repeaters on GMRS.
Second, how do you know which of the 22 channels are the radios are which?
I have no idea.
Third, right after I got the radios I went to the FCC web site looking for
info and thought that they were saying that I needed a license, so I applied
(and got) the license (WQDN796).
Fourth, now that I got the license for GMRS can I use two older Aerotron
radios with this license? Do the radios have to be "Type-Accepted?
Yes, they have to be type accepted. GMRS max ERP is 35 W.
I would really appreciate any help!
Thanks
