[Motorola] Band Mod for CDM-1550s?

Jay,
Strange coincidence- I was on the phone to the Motorola Software and Design
groups this morning, asking pretty much the same thing. My specific
question was, "How can I make the low-band CDM radio operate in the 50-54
MHz segment?" The answer, predictably, was that it can't be done.
I am inclined to believe them, simply because a Motorola engineer explained
to me more than a year ago, how the CPS+ software interacts with the
connected radio's firmware and masked memory to fix the permissible
frequency ranges. The CPS+ is vastly different from the old DOS RSS, where
you could tweak the *.mdf file with Hex Workshop to make a radio think it
had a different bandsplit. With CPS+, the radio tells the software what its
bandsplit is, not the other way around. Since the masking is permanent and
not alterable like firmware, it can't be changed with software commands.
Unfortunately, I don't see Motorola changing the design of a flagship radio
line merely to accommodate a bunch of 6m operators. That's a shame... it
would be great to use on 6m.
