Something like the UHF Mobile radio (16 Channel) " Maxtrac 800 " it is fully
programmable for CTCSS (PL Tones), frequencies and 'straight' or repeated
radio channels. It can also be set for power output. The Programming, however can
only be done by those with the right RISS software, and a specialized cable.
Many comm-shops charge a small to mediate fee for this, but the cable can also
be made if you have a friend who is electronically adept. The software has
several look alikes that purport to work with the Motorola platform RISS fine,
but I have never tried them-Some are freeware or shareware. But $4000 for
software you will use once (The Original Mot software) will not be worth it for
the 'one-time user'. ICOM and Kenwood also make UHF Mobiles and Portables that
CAN be user programmed, but I am not familiar with their models. Best bet, have
a ham friend (Unless YOU are one) go to various ham operator sale
sites/swapmeets, etc. These things show up there for very small $$$$ fairly regularly.
