eBay has the old handie talkies frequently. A much bigger challenge is
finding the 67.5 volt batteries they use at a decent price, or the Willard 2
volt wet cells that can still take a charge. The real mystery is where
their lowband loaded antennas go, probably now in some distant galaxy along
with the covers for R-390A receivers, the cabinets for Hammarlund SP-600's,
connectors for the ART-13 and shock mounts for the BC-348.

For the benefit of the younger folk, the FHTR or FHTRU series, called the
"Handie Talkies" were re-labeled in about 1952 as the H11-1 or H13-1 model,
and were handset only types. The FPTR or FPTRU models were pack sets with
much larger housings, with a chrome handle all the way across and had a
speaker with a hinge on it, apparently so that you could tilt it toward your
ear when wearing the radio as a backpack. Those got P11-1 and P13-1 type
numbers, as I recall, about 1952.

I have a website on early Motorola police radio, with more to follow. I'm
not sure if this list supports hyperlinks, but the link is:

I am thinking about starting a separate QTH mailing list reflector covering
vintage two-way radio topics, if there is enough interest. I am apparently
not the only one interested in old Motorola, Link, RCA, GE, DuMont and
related radios pre-1955, so if you are interested in such a list, let me
know. I am thinking it would be a resource for exchanging data, parts,
radios and so forth.
