Microphonics in the VCO I think.  A friend of mine used to fix a bunch of
them.
I've forwarded this to him...he may have some advice.

I have several radios that from time to time howl when volume turned up or
when a receiving a station, There must be a known most likely cause and
repair as I have seen so many.... Ideas. What have you done to fix problem..
Doesn't make a difference VHF UHF or programmed freq..
