[Motorola] Mitrek Questions

In my opinion, the Mitrek is not the best radio to
build a repeater from. The old Motrac base stations
with the separate receiver and transmitter as well as
the Micor with the separate receiver and transmitter
work much better. You really need to shield both the
transmitter and receiver to keep from getting
problems.
On the open market, a Mitrek unit isn't worth that
much any more due to the fact that it uses crystal
type channel elements and they are very limited in the
number of channels available.
When I was with Texas Utilities, we gave away over 500
Mitreks, low band, high band, and 450 MHz, to
volunteer fire departments, and the like. The "good
will" for the company was worth much more than the
"pittance" that any of the dealers would give for them
(from $10 to $50 depending on the frequency range and
the power level). This was just over 4 years ago and
the prices have been going down.

I have a Mitrek base station consolette that has been
used for amateur packet. How difficult would it be to
make a repeater out of this radio and where might I
find some info on the conversion? If this proves to
difficult, any idea what this radio might be worth on
the open market?
