[Motorola] Vehicle Adapter for HT1250

Gil,
I strongly advise against using a "Vehicular Adapter" with any of the
Professional Series radios. If it's the VA I'm thinking of, the total
cost exceeds that of a mobile radio. To connect an HT1250 to a VA, you
must remove the antenna and install an adapter, and you must also remove
the side contact dust cover. This is extraordinarily inconvenient, and
the radio will suffer a lot of wear and tear on the antenna and side
connectors. Since there is no particular place to store the side cover,
it usually gets lost and is not replaced.
The standard VA side connector probably has pins to break out the
signals you mentioned.
The solution I chose for a vehicle that occasionally needs a radio, but
does not warrant a mobile unit, is the Motorola Travel Charger RLN4883.
When mounted on a custom bracket from Pro.Fit International, the
portable radio is held securely where the antenna is not shielded by the
dashboard. The charger plugs into the lighter socket, and it will
recharge a dead battery in three hours, and it even charges while the
radio is in use. I use this setup in my personal vehicle, and it has
been the perfect solution for me, since I monitor both VHF and UHF at
the same time and use MDC coding on both. Another nice thing is that I
can read the HT1250's display when it's in the travel charger- something
that I could not do with a VA.
