The cab roof will be a better place to mount the
antenna since it is the highest point on the vehicle. 
What I would do is to mount your scanner antenna(s) on
the storage box and the transmitting antenna on the
roof.

Also, make sure that the storage box is well connected
to the vehicle.  You might want to add some braid
between the corners of the box and the top around the
bed of the pickup truck.

Over the years, I have seen commercial FM (business
band, etc.) antennas installed just about everywhere
on a vehicle.  The top of the body is normally the
best place.  The antenna will be shielded towards the
front of the vehicle if it is placed on the storage
box.
