Hi Thomas,
If they are not of the "ham band split", they probably won't do very
well. If they are not of the synthesized variant, then you'll need to
get channel elements for them. Or mod the existing ones (NOT
RECOMMENDED, been there, tried to do that!). These radios are a struggle
to get going, nice radios when they work, rugged as all getout, but if
not ham band split, with no service information, well, I wouldn't
bother. They are not trivial radios to play with.
My .02. I've played with mx's for 20 years. I don't any more.
