Yep, this past Saturday was such a nice warm spring day, I vacuumed and
washed the Trail Blazer inside and out .... figured I would get it ready
for a trip this coming weekend or so. Got me to thinking about resuming
my walks on pleasant days, and taking my HT with me and operating HF
using SkyCommand back to my base or mobile station. Can walk for several
miles from my mobile and operate HF running about a quarter watt on my
HT using an extended antenna instead of the short rubber duck. APRS and
SkyCommand in the mobile make for a wonderful paring .... Bob has great
articles on his web page about both.
Re-installed the TS-480HX, TMD-700A, navigation / gps G5 navigator and
the separate battery-isolation / charger and power strip system back
into the mobile. Installed the HiQ 5/160 screwdriver antenna and the
Turbo Tuner. Did damp wipe down the HiQ and put a fresh coat of RainX
was on it to help keep the mud from sticking to it.
Monday it was so cold and snow forecast for the next couple of nights
here in N.W. Indiana, so I decided to configure the mobile for
SkyCommand once again so I could use it from my easy chair. Fired up the
TH-D7A and configured it and the mobile for SkyCommand and did some
testing. All done and ready to go ... now need some dry warmer weather
to do those walks once again .... hi hi
Last summer I chatted in this forum about using SkyCommand and how to
set it up and use it. Interesting to note the number of rigs that
support Kenwoods wonderful SkyCommand.
HF Rigs: TS2000 series, TS-480 series, The TS570S, TS-870S and the TS-590S.
Dual Banders: TMD700A, TMD710A, and RC-D710 Control Head, TM-V71A/E with
2.10 Firmware.
HT's: TH-79A KSS, THD7A and THD72A.
So curious if any of you got the SkyCommand bug now and are using it?
Try checking into a net on HF as a pedestrian mobile! Its a great
conversation starter.
Let us know how it is working out for you using your SkyCommand system.
