If I remember correctly, good matching was obtained
by using a 1000 pFd mica or 470 pFd mica cap shunted
from the base of the antenna to ground. 1000 pFd for
75m and 470 pFd for 40m. Use progressively lower for
the higher bands.
It was pretty much the same for the Master Mobile
Hi-Q single-band coils with a 3' base section and
5' top whip (which I used in 62-72).
I went to the adjustable Master Mobile Matcher to
resonate the antenna up and down in frequency and
the adjustable Master Mobile Micro-Z matching network
to match the antenna to 50 Ohm impedance.

p.s. That antenna system still resides in my garage.
It worked a whole lot better than Webster Bandspanners
or the Slim Jims, especially on 75 and 40 meters.
