[Mobile-Portable] Dodge Caravan with High Sierra

Grounding is everything in mobile mounts on vehicles. However, I have a
friend who cannot get his to work on some bands on his VAN and I am sure it
is because there is too much metal close to the lower portion of the
antenna. First make SURE you are grounded well. The receiver hitch will
not provide a sufficient ground in itself and requires wire optimally from
the antenna ground point to the vehicle frame. Purists will tell yo to bond
all metal panels of the vehicle but I have never done that and do not think
it is necessary. I have the HI-Q 4-80 and love it on my pickup receiver
mount and on a home-made receiver mount on my car (not much metal near the
lower portion of the antenna). BTW, I use a 102 inch whip above the coil
(yes it is tall, 13'4" at the top, works fantastic).
