Hi Warren. This may give you some ideas...
I have a Subaru with an in-dash cupholder. I slipped out the cupholder and
replaced it with a piece of acrylic of the same thickness so it rides in
the cupholder rails. I angled the front edge of the acrylic (1/2 inch
thick) both toward the driver seat (lateral) and upward to the driver's
eyes (azimuth). Upon this compound angle I plastic-welded/glued a backing
piece of acrylic for my '706's remote face mounting bracket.

Works incredibly well.
