You need to insure that the antenna mount is physically grounded to
the metal of the truck. Take a continuity tester and check between
the antenna mount ground, and, say, the frame. But, disconnect the
coax from the radio, first as a way to isolate the antenna so that the
test is accurate. If you have zero resistance, then there is a solid
DC ground on the antenna. That would be a good start. Otherwise, you
don't have enough of a ground on that part of your antenna system.
Second, you will need to ground the radio itself. This is crucial.
Finally, I would still put on the rf choking snap-on ferrite cores on
both ends of the control head cable, and possibly also place some of
these along the antenna coax, to isolate the antenna system from the
radio. (Common-mode).
