Addendum:

Actually, the feedpoint of your system WOULD
be at RF ground, just not DC ground.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The cap goes from the base
of the antenna to ground. Basically, it forms an L
network with some of the antenna inductive loading
to gain the match. Of course, this prevents having
a "GROUNDED" antenna.

a coil?

Thanks, Mac.

I've considered a series capacitor, but decided against it for two reasons.
One is
that I want to maintain a DC grounded antenna. Two, once matched for lowest
freq of
operation, the inductor needs no further adjustment when frequency changes.

I have a "T" type homebrew mobile tuner (pics if interested) that can match
just
about anything-anywhere with several of my interchangeable upper antenna
halves, but
50 or so kc QSY on lower bands, and I gotta stop- get out- and retune.

Oh yes... thanks for changing the topic. After I pulled the trigger with my
serious
questions, I was afraid some might just read the topic and click the "can
it" button.
