[Mobile-Portable] Outbacker

I had a screwdriver for 7 years and it was great. I crashed the mount &
sold the antenna,...and decided to try an AH-4 and and 102 inch whip.

I mounted the AH-4 directly opposite the whip on the underside of the roof
of my older car... with a wide insulating feedthru almost directly to the
base of the whip. Lousy! Bad. Tuned up but didn't get out hardly at all.

Went back to a screwdriver, and all is well again! Yea!

You simply cannot beat a high-mounted center-loaded resonant antenna (read
that "screwdriver") for a mobile instalation. My new one (Larry's
Antennas) tunes 160M thru 6M...no kidding. I was skeptical but you can't
argue with the results. High mounted is worthwhile if you can do it, and
stay up and away from the vehicle's metal with the base of the screwdriver
because this is the major radiator portion.

I can email you photos of my mount (off thread, of course) if you are
interested.
