Well, if it's an officer down situation, and the officer can't use their
radio, why not grab it and use it?? That's what I'd do. Let the dispatcher
sort it out...
We had a situation down here in San Diego 10-15 years or so ago when the
SDPD was on their old VHF system. I ham did use their freq to talk an
officer to an area where someone was gravely injured. After the fact, the
ham got his radio confiscated, and IIRC lost his ticket. It's been a very
long time, and I don't know if the ham got his ticket back or what. This is
becoming a pretty mute point these days as most public services are
switching to trunked system, or running APCO digital gear...
Anyways, getting a bit off topic as well...
