Why do you think the performance will not be as good? The main advantage
of the Diamond, as well as a similar Comet model, over a screw driver is
that they are top loaded. Screw driver antennas are always base loaded or
lower center loaded, and consequently don't have the better performance of
top loading.
The disadvantage of the Diamond and the Comet models is that they are
limited to only one or two HF band antennas (although they do have 6m, 2m
and 70cm capabilities). Moving to other HF bands means having to change
the loading coils, and you are also limited to a fixed portion of a band
that is dependent on the individual coil/stinger tuning. The screw driver
antenna has the advantage of remote band and tuning flexibility.
Personally, I prefer dealing with the hassle of coil changing and having a
stronger mobile signal, rather then having remote all band tuning and lower
signal strength.
