I saw some movie on Youtube about the German spy ring East Coast USA early WW2.
There was one fellow who relayed information to Germany with his higher powered setup.
But what a setup ! I thought, man, i would like to have a shack like that.
‘Soldier of Orange’, which i saw decades ago, has some pretty realistic radio scenes. Got to
give them credit for possibly the only appearance in any movie of the German “Gurtenpeiler”,
which used a pants belt as the antenna.
Which reminds me, i saw ONE photo in all these years of the Navy DAG. Some Navy chap was
showing a Chinese man how to use it. I thought, “Obligatory and totally wasted training. Anyway
the Navy chap could mark off on his timecard he had achieved something that day.”
Probably the actual radio was never found in the least practical to use. Nice idea, though.
