Although I agree with you, in principle, I also firmly believe that our old gear can sound just as 
"perfect" as the modern crap.

For instance, by properly working with a pair of push-pull 211s (VT-4Cs) in a self-excited 
power oscillator in a TPTG or TNT configuration, one can make it sound so good that 
modern operators cannot tell the difference.

A good friend of mine achieved DXCC with such a rig, and when he told the stations he 
worked what rig he was using they always expressed extreme surprise.

Almost all "modern" hams presume that the old gear output terrible signals, when that is most 
assuredly NOT the case!!

In fact, it rather irritates me when these rather snotty un-educated moderns believe such 
garbage about our old gear and us old operators..

To me, it is a matter of pride to use old gear and adjust it so that moderns cannot even tell it 
is OLD until I tell them.

There is really no excuse for outputting a bad sounding signal when with a little care it can be 
made to sound perfect.
