Hi Jim,

I got mine from Hamfests years ago. My last purchase was about 10 years ago. The vendors selling them mentioned that there the recyclers didn't want it because it was too difficult to extract the wire. The overseas recyclers used to burn off the insulation to get to the wire and this was not possible. I was originally looking for tinned stranded PVC wire but it was hard to find because there was a market with the recyclers.

I don't know what the market is today. If you cannot find it at hamfests I would check out Skycraft Surplus

I only use plated stranded wire with insulation, such as silver plated Teflon or tinned PVC wire. I do lots of operation at the beach and would not use unplated or wire without any insulation. I don't like the untinned flexweave type of wire because the strands are quite thin and could break. They also absorb moisture via capillary action.
