I decided to go thru my books and get rid of ones i don't really need. Was casting an eye on 'The Bay of Pigs', Haynes Johnson, 1964. I decided to look up some on
Radio Swan. I read up some on the story at " w2xq.com/qsl-swan-island-radio-swan.html "
A warning comes up that this site is insecure, certificate has expired, but i went ahead, no problem.
This book i have, i think i'll just scan some pages relevant to Radio Swan broadcasts and then donate it.
I recall i had a QSL from Radio Swan. It had a note written next to the signer's signature, "6100 kcs is too far off for a QSL from me." I was using a Lafayette radio with
not good dial markings. Years later, in a mistaken purge, i threw out all my QSLs. But a few years after that, i was at a collectible paper shop in Seatte ( try to find such
shop today ), and i bought a Radio Swan QSL, as a replacement, but of course without the "personal note".
I recall at lunch, when i was in junior high school, i was reading the Seattle Times about the invasion, and it said the insurgents would have an update radio communique
broadcast on 7000 kcs. I knew very little about radio in those days, but i knew enough to know this was on the edge of a hamband, and i wondered how that could be.
I don't think my memory is mistaken, and i have remembered it after all these years.
I also recall reading, this sometime in the late 1970s, some kind of religious cult's newspaper thing about some U.S. agent who had worked in Cuba. I have no idea
now how that topic was relevant to that cult's literature. In the article the author mentioned using some kind of radio that "squished" the audio message down in
time, compressed it in time for a shorter transmit time.
