If you look in the HRO it looks like a logical, well laid out city plan, there’s lots of real estate, and with no bandswitch, it’s a lot easier to troubleshoot also.
So if you don’t change frequencies much, “band cruise”, it’s a good receiver for its use. I don’t know why the Germans ( KST ) copied it. They had
already a lot of interesting receivers, maybe not enough HF receivers though for their big project, conquer Europe. I don’t know if this is common knowledge,
but the bandspread coils of the KST cover frequencies other than the ham bands. Japan also copied the HRO idea, but without National’s dial. The HRO “copy”
seems to have been pushing it, for Japan’s industry; that and a Super Pro copy – even rarer – are the most advanced WWII Japanese receivers i have seen.
