[Milsurplus] PCB's.

Around 1985, in ancient times, i phoned some agency in WA, where i lived, to ask about disposal
of some PCB filled, large HV condensers. The person told me i could put them in metal drums and
have them trucked to Oregon. Of course, that is totally nuts for one little hobbyist to take on. So
most went right into the trash. I still have around 20 that i held for their HV specs in case i do want
to ever build a 1000 volt supply. Now i live in Oregon and the idea of that stuff being trucked here
doesn't sound pleasant either.
I recall when i lived in Seattle there was attention to the heavily polluted Duwamish river. It seems
the river bottom was permeated with PCBs and such from years of industrial dumping. You know
that story. As i write this, i'm also thinking of articles about the Gowanus canal in NYC, same story
except maybe worse. I think that's being cleaned up now. It was much worse than the Seattle story.
I also now recall a photo i saw years ago in the Oregonian newspaper. It was of some riverfront scene,
there was a huge state sign saying something like "NO FISHING - UNSAFE POLLUTED WATER" and a
few feet away from the sign, a guy, i think a recent Russian immigrant, had his fishing pole and line
in the water.
