You know something, Dave, i have looked at these things and wondered, "????".
For some reason i never thought, synthesized signal source. 
Some of them do deserve to live on. ( I think more transistors in it = more likely
to be a survival candidate. )  
I found after scrapping out a bunch of Northern 535's that i STILL had one left in
storage. I think that one will have its final tubes removed and a matching network
installed to match the solid drivers to the antenna tuning network or LP filter. Yes,
