Subject: TDE generator in anyone's hall closet ?😉

Im starting to put feelers out here, just hoping someone will think of
where I should look.

I successfully returned a 1944 TDE3 to its original configuration as
powered from 3 phase 220v motor generator.

Previously it had a single phase AC xfnr/rectifier supply.

I ended up doing a lot of parts scrounging and fabricating/machining a few
new parts.

Tore down the 3ph motor and the 509v and 2kv generators.

New vearings, cleaned and reinsulated fields, rotator and armature.

All meggered good and ran fine.

I've been using the transmitter along with its matching RAL with great
pleasure.

Then the other night after signing with a regular JA1 station

I logged things and went to call CQ

In mid character, theDC 2kv and 500v disappeared??

No smoke,noise,fire smells ...nothing.

3 phase motor still running fine...just no Generator outputs.

I assumed it was a bad spot in the field rheostat..

Checked it...no go.

Took covers off to access as much as I could of the Generator while it's
still in the power supply.

Shunt and series fields good.

Cleaned brush holders and commutator again

500v commutator armature windings look perfect.

Everything meggers very very high, over 409megohms as it was after I rebuilt
things.

BUT, I now have one open coil in the 2kv armature !+×÷=%$##@$

The worst of all possible scenarios.

Field windings, not too bad to rewind, even though they are compound coils.

But the armature is quite the engineering marvel of its day.

It's a long common armature with 16 slots.

The 64 bar commutator for 500vdc at one end ,the 128 bar 2kv armature at
the other end.

Bar to bar reads on the 500volt side look great, all matching at 72 ohms
per Westinghouse drawings.

Not so the 2kv armature side....found the open coil between two segments,
so you see 880 ohms between those two rather than the 27 ohms every other
coil.

Only one motor rewind shop on Reno that KNEW what I had and very familiar
with DC machines....though nothing smaller than 7hp.

They agreed that there may not be many shops around the country that could
rewind this ...even with the complete Westinghouse shop drawings.

So,I'm really in need of finding another TDE generator set.

My motor is fine......so if there is a generator available it can be
unbolted from the motor to save some of the shipping weight.
